We’ve all been there, looking back at decisions and wondering, “why did I do that?” It’s easy to replay the past like a bad TV rerun, but holding on only drains your energy. The truth? You can’t change what’s already happened, but you can change how you see it.
Doing your best at the time
Maybe you weren’t in the perfect situation, or your mind was all over the place. But chances are, you did the best you could with what you had. Beating yourself up now doesn’t help.

Break the thought loop
It takes a lot of energy to keep going over the “what ifs.” Instead, give your brain a break. Go for a walk, call a friend, do something that shifts your focus. A fresh perspective is often what stops the spiral.
Other people’s opinions
Words fade, but the energy behind them often sticks. Negative vibes can drain you long after the moment’s passed. Be mindful of who you spend time with, and choose to be around people who lift you up rather than pull you down.
Intention vs impact
Sometimes people don’t mean to hurt us but intent doesn’t erase impact. Both matter. Recognising this can help you process, move on, and put things into perspective without brushing your feelings aside.
The bottom line
You can’t rewrite the past, but you can choose how you carry it. Forgive yourself, learn from it, and focus on the days ahead. Better ones are always coming.
